Hospital Bag Checklist According To Melissa Celestine Koh

Hospital Bag Checklist According To Melissa Celestine Koh

When Melissa Koh was 38 weeks pregnant, we had the pleasure of watching her review the hospital essentials and pack her bags for the birth of her baby. In this article, we will be looking at the essential things to pack in your hospital bag for you and your baby during your hospital stay from Melissa’s viewpoint. Melissa says the most organized way to pack a hospital bag is to pack things separately for the mom, the dad, and the baby.

Hospital Bag Checklist – Bag for Mom

The first item she picked was an extra hand carry bag to enable her to have quick access to everything. She intends to downsize her bag for this birth, unlike when she had her first child, Noah. This time, she only bought a cabin-sized bag because she doesn’t really need that many things as it’s going to be just a one or two-night stay.

1. Clothing Items

The first thing Melissa put inside the hand-carry bag was a very easy-to-wear, comfortable birth robe with a tie. She intends to wear this robe during birth or right after birth.

Other items included;

  • Clothes to wear during the hospital stay as well as a going home outfit.

Melissa says this is optional because the hospital actually provides hospital gowns, so it is really up to you to decide what you want.

For Melissa, the maternity clothes she picked to wear during her hospital stay are loose-fitting, breastfeeding friendly, and very comfortable. She decided to bring a couple of these and had two different options in case she would be doing a newborn shoot in any of these clothes.

According to Melissa, her going home outfit would be a loose-fitting jumpsuit that will be very comfortable.

2. Pads

  • Maternity pads – Thick huge pads are a necessity! Melissa packed a pouch full of maternity pads.
  • Perineal cooling pads – Perineal cooling pads are a necessity for childbirth. They provide cooling pain relief to the vagina and perineum before and after childbirth. Melissa wisely included two boxes of these cooling pads in addition to the normal maternity pads.

3. Toiletries

Melissa packed a small pouch filled with everything toiletry related and the items include;

  • Herbal perineal spray – According to Melissa, this spray helps to relieve pain and soreness and is incredibly helpful.
  • Purelan lanolin cream – Melissa says this cream helps with nipple soreness especially if you’re breastfeeding.

4. Skincare Pouch

Melissa also included all the travel-sized tubes of her normal skincare products. The items include;

5. Makeup Pouch

The additional things Melissa added to her hospital bag are;

6. Book/Novel

Melissa brought along a book to read and it went in her hand carry bag.

7. Disposable surgical masks

You can never have too much! Melissa decided to play it safe by bringing along extra disposable surgical masks.

8. Nipple Wipes

According to Melissa, nipple wipes are also very essential for when you start lactating.

9. Disposable Film Camera

This is also important because you have to capture those precious moments!

10. Cord Lining Collection Kit

Definitely two of the most important items, Melissa affirmed that it had to go into the labor room with her.

Hospital Bag Checklist for Baby

In packing for the baby, Melissa got some beautiful hospital bag organizers that she designed because she absolutely loves the idea of putting things into pouches because it’s so much easier to find them and it’s a great way to make sure you bring everything that you need to.

The hospital bag organizers include:

  • Swaddles and wraps – Melissa included three different swaddles and wraps options.
  • Birth announcement plaques – Melissa had two very cute birth announcement plaques; one Hello world! and one You are blessed with You is loved on the other side.
  • Going home outfit.
  • Spare clothes – Melissa packed two sets of spare clothes
  • First outfit
  • Accessories – Melissa packed the baby cap, booties, and a little toy into the accessories pouch.

Other items for the baby include diaper creams and wet wipes.
